On the eve of the 2013 Spring Festival, on behalf of the General Administration of Press and Publication, Hu Yashun, the Chinese ambassador to Latvia, donated books to the National Library of Latvia.
Back in September 2010, when Liu Binjie, Director of GAAP, led a delegation to visit Latvia, he said it is important to continue expanding areas of cooperation and making innovations in the ways of cooperation, in order to enhance the level of cooperation, and make it possible for people from all walks of life in Latvia to learn more about the Chinese culture. The book donation is a powerful measure to promote the cultural exchange between China and Latvia.
Hu Yashun pointed out that Latvia is an important partner of China in the Baltic region, and the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries has been developing smoothly. Educational, cultural and art exchanges have become the most active areas in the Sino-Latvia relations. The book donation is a positive measure taken by China to strengthen cultural cooperation with countries in Central and Eastern Europe, including Latvia. The donated books contain 5,000 years of Chinese civilization, as well as reflecting today's economic prosperity, cultural pluralism, and social harmony in China. We hope these donated books can play an active role in helping the people of Latvia learn more about the old and vibrant China, and promote the exchange of ideas between the people of two countries.
Janeta Jaunzeme Grende, Latvian Minister of Culture thanked China for the generous donation, and she said, these donated books will play an active role in helping the people of Latvia learn more about the Chinese culture, and promote the understanding and exchange of ideas between the people of two countries. Wilks, Director of the National Library of Latvia said, the donated books cover extensive areas, involving various aspects of history, geography, culture, etc, and is very important in enriching the collection in the new building of the National library of Latvia that is soon to be completed .
