Introduction
The World of Violin is Amazing
At the first and second lectures of Strings Touch My Heart series, Dr. Wang gave an introduction to the sophiscated Italian violin making techniques and discussed the origin of violin and its various schools, as well as a number of renowned violinists, such as Paganini, Sarasate, Chrysler and Li Chuanyun, etc. At the third lecture, Dr. Wang will continue to tell us the stories of such famous modern and contemporary American violinists as Yehudi Menuhin, Heifetz, Stern and etc. Chinese-American violinist Mr. Suli Xue is invited to be our special guest at the Shanghai Library and will play a number of solo violin pieces.
About the speakers:
Wang Yong: Associate professor and Vice Chair, Arts Administration Department of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music; DAAD scholar; Shanghai Pujiang scholar; Shanghai Shuguang scholar, and the first Ph.D of Music in the joint Sino-German program. Suli Xue: Tenured violinist, Los Angeles Philharmonic; Professor of violin at the University of Southern California and Ph. D. advisor; Artistic Advisor of the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra, the United States; former Chief Violinist, the Central Philharmonic Orchestra, and violin soloist. |
