On the occasion of the Spring Festival, and sponsored by the Shanghai Municipal People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the Consulate General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Shanghai and the Shanghai Library, the Uzbekistan Oil Painting Exhibition will be held from 6 to 18 February at the Shanghai Library. This exhibition will display 71 oil paintings by 7 Uzbekistani artists. The subject matters cover people, landscapes, flowers, birds, architecture and still life. It will show the unique arts, humanities and folk customs of Uzbekistan from a special perspective.
Uzbekistan is a landlocked country in Central Asia. For most Chinese people, this is a strange and distant land. But just as China, Uzbekistan is also one of the cradles of world civilization. As a famous ancient country located on the Silk Road, Uzbekistan had an advantageous geological position and was an important center of East-West trade and transportation hub. It is now a land for active outreach and various cultural exchange activities, as well as an art center in Central Asia.
Under the influence of such Eastern and Western cultures and arts as the Hellenistic art, Sussanian Art, Turkic steppe art, Islamic art and nomadic art, Uzbekistan has formed its unique artistic style, and made brilliant achievements in the fields of architectural decoration, murals, miniature paintings, and etc. There have been a number of talented painters.
On the occasion of the 21st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Uzbekistan, the Uzbekistan Oil Painting Exhibition held in the Shanghai Library will further promote the cultural and artistic exchanges between the two countries and deepen the mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples.
