In the beginning of the new year, the 2013 Exhibition of Shanghai and Jingdezhen Porcelain Works by Famous Contemporary Artists was held on January 9 to 14 in the Shanghai Library.
The exhibition showed more than 150 pieces of porcelain art works by contemporary masters, among which there are a number of brilliant art works. The 92-year-old Wang Xiliang is a famous Chinese artist, a leader of the new generation of Chinese porcelain industry, a leading authority in the field of the contemporary artistic porcelain and a winner of the China Arts and Crafts Lifetime Achievement Prize. The exhibition showed one of his early works “Zither, Chess, Poetry and Painting”. The work is a vase in the color of famille rose, which was once sold overseas and was brought back into the country in recent years by a collector after paying a high price. This was its first exhibition after returning to China. Zhang Songmao is the first master craftsman in the Asia-Pacific region, and a China Arts and Crafts Lifetime Achievement Award winner. He and his wife Xu Yafeng are the only couple who both have the title of Chinese master crafts-person. They are both good at pastels peony and are known as the "Peony Masters" in the porcelain industry. Their work, the porcelain board with the title “Purple Peony” was given by the Jiangxi Provincial People's Government as a gift to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. At this exhibition, the Heavenly Peony jointly created by the couple made a dazzling show. Lu Ru is among the first Chinese porcelain artists, and was the only one whose porcelain work entered the Red Robe picture collection published by the People's Fine Arts Publishing House and Tianjin Fine Arts Publishing House, which contains art works created by 50 famous artists since the 1990s. His father Lu Yunshan is one of the eight masters in the porcelain industry, and is well known for paining plum blossom, orchid, bamboo and chrysanthemum on blue and white porcelain. This exhibition showed Lu Ru’s four pieces of plum blossom, orchid, bamboo and chrysanthemum. In addition, a number of professors from the Jingdezhen Porcelain Institute and other young and middle-aged porcelain artists participated in the exhibition and displayed their excellent works, including Ning Gang, Zeng Jing, Hu Guang, Tu Shaobo、Kuang Donggou, Zhensheng、Ouyang Min、Xu Xiaoming, Jiang Zhensheng、Ouyang Min and Xu Xiaoming.
It is particularly worth mentioning that during the event, the organizers invited a number of national masters and professors of fine arts to demonstrate on site the art of painting on porcelain at the exhibition, and thus the audience had the opportunity to meet the famous masters and discover the mystery of porcelain painting.
