The Second Phase of the Renovation and Expansion Project of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Library Breaking Ground

On September 29, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Library launched its renovation and expansion project, which is expected to last three years. In the second phase, the new additions will include a cafe, an interactive space, a multimedia TV room, a reader cafeteria and etc. There is also an underground car park. The expansion project is to build a second-phase new library building with an area of 28,800 square meters, which has received an investment fund of RMB 183.6 million. The new library building will become a public cultural service place, covering the functions of Xingjiang’s knowledge center, intelligence information center, document support center, community education center, ancient books preservation center, public digital cultural construction center, ethnic minorities resource development center and public cultural information center, and integrating the eight functions into one. After the completion of the project, the total area of  the regional library will be expanded from the current 24,700 m2 to 53,500 m2, the holding capacity will increase from 3 million to 5 million, and reading seats from 1,500 to 4,500.
