On the afternoon of 29th August, 2012, a 4-member delegation led by Ms. Elaine Trepper, Major of Windhoek, Namibia, paid a formal visit to the Shanghai Library, and was received by Mr. HE Yi, the Library’s Deputy Director.
As one of the sister cities of Shanghai in Africa, Windhoek was introduced to the Shanghai Library in 2011 by Foreign Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government to established “Window of Shanghai” cooperation with its Greenwell Matongo Community Library. The visit of Ms. Elaine Trepper this time aimed at promoting understanding and friendship of each other, and extending cooperation between the two libraries.
After profiling the Shanghai Library, Deputy Director HE introduced the Library’s pilot project in “Window of Shanghai” e-book donation to the guests. In order to enrich “Window of Shanghai” collections and take the Window as a platform to popularize digital reading, the Shanghai Library, with the help of the relevant company, is now making an attempt to donate e-books to its Window partners besides the traditional physical-book donation. This time, a “Window of Shanghai” e-book trial was customized for Major Trepper, who was more than happy to use after going back to Windhoek, so as to explore the possibility of e-book using in foreign libraries.
After the meeting, the delegation, in the company of Mr. HE, visited the Friendship Library, the New Technology Demo Center and the circulation area. Ms. Trepper was deeply impressed by the Library’s high-tech reading, borrowing and returning services.
