On the afternoon of May 22nd, 2012, the Opening Ceremony of 'Window of Shanghai' Collection was hosted in the City Library of Aachen in Germany. The Window was unveiled together by Mr. Udo Mattes, former Mayor of Aachen and present president of Adam Schall Society for German-Chinese Cooperation, Ms. Frau Dittrich, vice director of the City Library of Aachen, Mr. Yv Jianhao, Secretary-General of the Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (SPAFFC), and Ms. SHEN Liyun, director of International Cooperation Division of the Shanghai Library. Delegates from the SPAFFC, Baoshan Yuepu Folk Art Troupe, and Aachen local patrons attended the ceremony.
'Window of Shanghai' is a cultural exchange program organized by Shanghai Library. Since its inception in 2002, the program has entered more than 70 libraries in 48 countries and regions, involving donation of up to 40, 000 books. The one that opens in Aachen is the 78th of all. This donation - 116 titles and 116 copies of books - sent by the Shanghai Library had reached Aachen early in April.
Two musicians from the Baoshan Yuepu Folk Art Troupe performed at the ceremony.
This event, organized by Shanghai Library, is a part of the SPAFFC series in commemoration of 40-year diplomatic ties between China and Germany. The Library is now discussing memorandum signing with the City Library of Aachen, and also inviting the partner to participate in the 'Shanghai Get-together' writing contest.
