On 8th May, 2012, Ms. Filipa Teles, from Instituto Camões of the Portuguese cultural institute, on behalf of the Consulate General of Portugal in Shanghai, donated two boxes of books, magazines, CDs and DVDs to the Shanghai Library and was received by the staff of International Cooperation Division.

The books offered to the Shanghai Library include the Portuguese epic poem from the 16th century, Os Lusíadas, by Luís de Camões, and other works by important Portuguese writers like Eça de Queirós (19th century), António Lobo Antunes and José Saramago (20th century), who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1998.

Ms. Filipa Teles also brought a letter from Mr. Joaquim Moreira de Lemos, Consul General of Portugal, in which he expressed the sincere wish to foster cordial relations with the Library.

The Shanghai Library highly appreciated the generosity of Portugal Consulate General and strongly believed that this contribution would enrich the resources available in the Library. Both sides hoped to open ways for further cooperation.
