Focal events
1.        Selected Collection Exhibition on “Shun Pao”: 2012 marks the 140th anniversary of Shun Pao. The exhibition, featuring many magazines, chronicles, series, albums and atlases published by the Shun Pao Office in its 77-year long history since its founding in 1872, reveals the irreplaceable role of the famous Chinese-language paper in the modern history of Chinese journalism.
2.       2012 Citizen Digital Reading Campaign: The city’s digital library development will be improved in both scale and quality via the innovation efforts made in cooperation with digital device vendors and content suppliers to make digital resources available to an expanded audience. This campaign aims at developing the citizen’s digital reading custom and promoting the national reading rate, so as to pave the way for Shanghai’s smart city construction strategy in the intellectual aspect.
3.       Appreciation of the ex-libris from the cultural perspective: the ex-libris is mark to the book indicating its owner. The ex-libris spanning 500 years is a fascinating source of historical, artistic and socio-cultural interest regarding book and book collection. The lecture will share with the audience a number of interesting stories taken from the western history of ex-libris.
4.      “I’m reading, and I’m happy” -- Shanghai Disabled Persons Motivational Forum & Inauguration Ceremony of the Disabled Persons Reading Festival: personal experience and inspiring stories will be shared at the forum titled “Reading changes your life”. Interactions between the hostess, the invited speakers and the audience will create a happy, vigorous and active vibe.
