Exhibition Held on Award Medals and China's Images at World Expos


 


 


 

 

To commemorate the one-year countdown to Shanghai World Expo 2010, an exhibition on award medals and China's images at World Expos will be held between April 28 and May 10, 2009 in the Catalogue Hall of Shanghai Library with the cooperation from World Expo Weekly, a special issue of People's Daily.

Exhibited are 32 award medals, 3 commemorative medals, 72 items related to China's participation and China-invovled images at World Expos and World Fairs. Among them, a highlight is the grand panorama of 1851 London Exhibition, measuring 6.75 meters. First of its kind to review the country's presence at the occasions, the exhibition is expected to appeal to the general public and arouse their enthusiasm in this world-wide event.

All the exhibits are provided by Mr. Tong Bingxue, the collector reputed to be the domestic authority on world expo collecting. In the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Mr. Tong donated an award prize, the first prize to China in World Expos, won in 1851 London Exhibition to Shanghai Library.

Two books, namely, Medals of World Expos and China's Images at World Expos were published by Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences beforehand as the exhibition catalogues. At 09:30 on May 3, Mr. Tong will deliver a speech in Multifunctional Hall of Shanghai Library (4F) to share with readers the joy of World Expo collecting.
