introduction:

A strong service sector is a prerequisite to a strong economy and a mature society. To develop the modern service industries is a strategic policy for most countries to optimize performance of the national economy, and is pivotal to the end of the harmonious and sustainable economic and social development.
The global economy is now taking on the "service-led" identity instead of the phased-out "industries-driven" type. As globalization is continually gaining its momentum, economies around the world have all lived up to accelerate developing their own service industries. Analysts have predicted that the service sector of world’s economy is going to enjoy rapid and sustaining growth with the help of high technologies in the 21st century.
To catch up with what is new abroad and learn from others' success stories to improve the service industries in Shanghai, researchers from Shanghai Municipal Economic Commission and Institute of Scientific & Technical Information of Shanghai worked together to carry out studies and published in June 2005 The Development of Key Service Trades in the World: 2005~2006. It is a compilation of study reports covering nine major service industries, such as business and trade services, commercial supporting service, information service and professional service. It can be used as a reference book for the government departments and agencies, the sector’s enterprises and research institutes.
