Wilhelm Richard Wagner was a German composer, conductor, theatre director and essayist, primarily known for his operas such as Der Ring des Nibelungen (a.k.a. Ring Cycle), a piece of monumental work in European romantic traditions. Despite the fame, Wagner lived an eventful life characterized by political exile, turbulent love affairs, poverty and repeated flight from his creditors.
Dr. Wang Yong spent years in Germany for education and will deliver a lecture on the cultural connotations behind prevalent fondness of Wagnar and the latter's unique interpretation of society of his time.
About the Lecturer
Dr. Wang Yong, associate professor of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, vice dean of Artistic Management Department, and beneficiary of German Academic Exchange Service, was born into a family of music. After finishing the undergraduate program in Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 1993, Wang continued education in Hochschule fur Musik und Theater Munchen and returned to China in 2005. Within the last five years, Dr. Wang published one monograph per year and undertook research programs on the national and municipal levels. He also presides over music radio/TV programs and is renowned as the ¡°TV presenter who knows the most about music and music icon who knows the most about presenting¡±.
