Exhibition of the peculiar yearbooks collected by Shanghai Library

TO COMMEMORATE its 20th birthday, the Editorial Department of "Shanghai Culture Yearbook" invited editor of the city's another yearbook, the "Shanghai Almanac", to organize an exhibition of the peculiar collections of yearbooks, annals and almanacs of Shanghai Library, all that were published in China before 1949 or in foreign countries, from November 6th to 11th. 

A yearbook, also known as almanac or annals, is a book to record, highlight, and commemorate the past year of a particular field or fields, and a book published annually as a report or summary of statistics or facts. A mass of pictures, photos, data and statistics are normally found in this kind of annual recordings. A yearbook is not only a record of history, but also a reference for future development and valuable material for academic research. 
Shanghai Library has a large collection of yearbooks, amounting to more than 6000 Chinese-language titles of 11000 western language titles. Organizers of the exhibition has selected part of the Chinese-language yearbooks published between 1911 and 1949, and those that can be rarely found bo
th home and abroad, including "World Almanac", "Shen Bao Almanac" (the first yearbook compiled by China), "Yearbook of City of Shanghai"; and "Europa Yearbook", "The Official Yearbook of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland", "The Goethe Yearbook", "Wilson's Almanac", "Annals of Mathematics" and "Annals of American History".
