New Library Building Expected for Pudong New Area
2 decades after Pudong became a special economic zone, it is about to greet a new library building in the coming April.

The new library building, seated to the north of Pudong New Area Culture Park, is neighbored by China Executive Leadership Academy (Pudong) and blessed with transport convenience guaranteed by the Subway Line 7. Covering an area of 3 hectares and 8 floors (2 of which are underground) of 36 meters in total height, the building costs 850 million yuan, collects about 2 million volumes of books, features 2.5 thousand seats and is estimated to receive 6 thousand readers per day.

The over-ground 6 floors are divided into three functional areas, with the first two providing public service and space for academic exchange (such as public service hall, exhibition hall, auditorium, seminar rooms, training classrooms and a reading section for children), the third & fourth floors designated to documents lending and the highest two for different reading sections (including economy, policies, urban management, educational information, life & fashion, arts, reference materials and world expositions) as well as audio & video department and digitalized materials reading department. Radio frequency identification technology (RFID) will be adopted for documents management and service system so as to facilitate open, considerate and advanced services.
