Chinese Documents Included into "Memory of the World" Program
The 4th General Meeting of the UNESCO "Memory of the World" (MOW) Program Regional Committee for Asia and the Pacific (MOWCAP) was held in March 9 in Maucau and announced the documentary heritages to be included into MOW, among which three were Chinese documents, i.e., Compendium of Materia Medica, The Medical Classic of the Yellow Emperor and the archives of Macau¡¯s Catholic Diocese from the 16th to 19th centuries.

UNESCO launched the Program in 1992 to guard against collective amnesia by calling upon the preservation of invaluable archive holdings and library collections all over the world and ensuring their wide dissemination. It recognizes documentary heritage of international, regional and national significance, maintains registers of it, and awards a logo to identify it. Among the 192 items of MOW by far, 5 are Chinese.
