"Window of Shanghai" and the Peasant Painting Show Opened in Mexico

With the great help of Consulate General of Mexico in Shanghai, ‘Window of Shanghai’ collection launched in Biblioteca Pública del Estado de Jalisco 'Juan José Arreola' (BPEJ) in Guadalajara, Mexico.

A delegation led by Mr. Zhou Deming, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Library, visited BPEJ on 27th October, 2011 and attended the opening ceremony of ‘Window of Shanghai’, together with Dr. Juan Manuel Duran, Director of BPEJ, officials from Mexican Government, local Chinese cultural organization and other distinguished guests who were interested in Chinese culture and language. Mr. Zhou and Dr. Duran respectively delivered remarks to celebrate the inauguration and to express their wishes to promote library development and cultural exchange between the two sides. A donation certificate was awarded to the Shanghai Library by Dr. Duran.

This time, the Shanghai Library had also brought a special gift to Mexican people – 40 ‘Jinshan Peasant’ paintings. The ‘Jinshan Peasant’ painting, drawn by ordinary peasants from Jinshan area in Shanghai, is a perfect integration of modern plastic arts and countryside daily life. The 40 paintings were displayed in BPEJ and opened to the public free of charge.

After the ceremony, Mr. Zhou visited t the reading room and appreciated the precious heritage and historical collections of BPEJ, in the company of Dr. Duran. Both sides hoped to become closer partner of each other in the near future, especially in the field of library collections’ sharing.
