The Shanghai Library holds the largest collection of original Chinese genealogies, which amounts to 14,500 volumes. The collection includes chronicles, family histories, imperial civil examination papers, lists of people who passed the imperial civil examinations, records of imperial official appointments, pamphlets of officialdom, commemorative writings, lists of the fellow countrymen and alumni, etc.
